Want a window seat in a bedroom or another room but there is no bench or ledge for a seat?
One way is a custom built-in. If you like DIY projects and have some woodworking skills, this is a relatively easy project. If you are all thumbs when it comes to woodworking projects, you can hire a woodworker to create a custom built-in. If the person is skilled as a woodworker, the built-in can add charm to the room and value to your home. The only downside is this option is not always budget friendly.
Another way to create a window seat is to add a bench beneath a window and 2 shelves, one shelf on each end of the bench. To make the bench more comfortable, add a seat cushion to the bench and a couple of pillows. Now you've created the perfect reading or relaxing area.
To use the window seat area more efficiently, add a hidden storage area or drawers/shelves to the bottom portion of the bench. [Tip: The image shows the drawer handles as open metal loops. Depending on where and who will be using the window seat, other handles might be a better option. (When one of my nephews was little, he like to use his dresser as a rock climbing wall. If a small child needs to reach the top of the window seat, they will probably use the handle as a step.)]
